The mystique of Zanzibar has beaconed travellers for centuries. Once, a key trading port; Zanzibar was also the staging point for famous expeditions by Dr David, Richard Burton, John Hanning Speke and Henry Morton Stanley. Here, provisions were gathered and then a short trip to Bagamoyo on mainland Tanzania allowed them to being their exploration.
Zanzibar is actually an archipelago consisting of two major islands and several smaller ones. The main island is Unguja and is the island we often refer to as Zanzibar. To the north is Pemba. South of Zanzibar is Mafia Island. Though not considered part of the Zanzibar archipelago, Mafia Island is part of Tanzania and is another popular destination for holiday makers.
There are also exciting beach properties on the mainland of Tanzania, with Pangani and Bagamoyo to the north and Ras Katani to the south.
On the main island, Unguja, the city of Zanzibar, more commonly known as Stone Town because of the extensive use of coral stone in the construction of buildings there, offers a chance for visitors to look back into the rich history and culture of the island and provides a range of accommodation options.
We are able to arrange stays at scores of resorts and hotels in Zanzibar and surrounding areas.
